On 15th February 2004, an elegant evening at the J.W. Marriott Hotel, Mumbai, marked the grand
launch of "The Marriages of India"—a magazine that celebrates the rich and diverse marriage
traditions of India. The event was hosted by Ms. Priya Shah, the Publisher and Editor, who made
a stunning entrance in traditional bridal attire. To complement her look, Bollywood’s famous
mehendi queen, Veena Nagda, beautifully adorned Ms. Shah’s hands with intricate mehendi
patterns, while renowned beautician Jayavant Thakre created a flawless makeup look for the
evening.
At the launch, Priya Shah shared her deep joy, likening the birth of the magazine to that of a
mother bringing a child into the world. “It’s like bringing a new creation into the world,” she
said, expressing her immense pride and happiness in presenting this unique publication to the
world.
The invitation cards for the event were designed in the style of a traditional wedding
invitation, setting the tone for a grand celebration. Guests were warmly welcomed by an
exotically decorated elephant, accompanied by its mahavat, at the entrance of the hotel. The
entrance was further adorned with diyas and a beautiful fresh flower rangoli, adding to the
traditional and festive atmosphere.
The evening was graced by several eminent personalities, including the Padmashri Hema Malini, actress, Member of Parliament, and editor of New Woman, who added vibrancy to the celebration in a gorgeous red saree. Other distinguished guests included:
The evening reached its zenith with the Diya Ceremony, led by Chief Guest Hema Malini and Mr. Bharat
Shah, alongside Priya Shah. During her speech, Hema Malini remarked, “Marriages are made in heaven,
but it seems Priya Shah has brought heaven to Earth today.” She expressed her admiration for the
magazine’s insightful topics and praised Priya Shah for her significant contributions to society.
A dazzling bridal fashion show by Ojasvita, featuring exquisite diamond jewelry by Urja Creations
Pvt. Ltd., added a touch of glamour and sparkle to the event, leaving the audience in awe.
The Sheriff of Mumbai, Dr. Jagannath Hegde, took the stage to compliment Priya Shah on her
remarkable courage and vision. He shared a heartwarming story of Sejal & Bhavesh, a couple who were
married with Priya Shah's guidance five years earlier. That evening, Sejal, Bhavesh, and their
one-and-a-half-year-old son performed the mangal pheras on stage, a beautiful symbol of their
enduring love and gratitude. The emotional moment was witnessed by all the guests, showcasing the
power of Priya Shah's matchmaking expertise.
Following the emotional and inspiring program, a lavish dinner was served to the guests, with
photographers and print media from respected channels and newspapers covering this unforgettable
event.
For those who missed it, this was truly an evening to remember—an iconic celebration of love,
tradition, and unity.
